The second full length album from the year 2001 is the continuation of the velochrome recordings that started with the First Law material contributed to the legendary V.A. SATURN GNOSIS 2x10inch. Voices from the edge of hearing, whispering ambient soundscapes and symphonielements building deep organic compositions that blend beautifully into a grand enigmatic atmosphere of winding darkness blowing through controlled cycles. FJERNLYS Ascending Triads And Luminous Arcs 2CD

The songs layer cosmic and synthetic sounds and go on tracing according to the principle harmony in the music, their acoustic space seems very expansive, it is by no means over-crowded, voices creeping crosswise into sounds and effects to lunar spheres and solar places, exactly the correct nuance at refinement not only to remain in the ear but also simply very charming. Behind this project hides one of the INADE Masterminds, who recorded nine tracks supported from several musicians, those clearly possesses more songcharacter than the work which appeared from the Lightchannel so far, five remixes and interpretations of ANTLERS MULM, BAD SECTOR, FIR§T LAW and LOVESPELL on the second CD support the complex character of the whole release and expand the border to a new style of Ambient Songs. Ace - Clear - Pure. Released in May 2006. LOKI 42

For those who shine darkly...

During the transitional period in which Coil’s primary leadership (Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson and John Balance) reorganized their creative direction by taking on new membership in the group through their inclusion of Drew McDowall, Coil took a drastic turn towards the metaphysical unknown. Employing the subtle handiwork of Coil’s “real life” members, as well as the cleverly guised aliases and spiritual collaborators, the band chose to filter their identity through a the nome de guerre, Black Light District, setting the precedent of Coil’s future exploration of otherworldly influence.

Recorded during the Winter of 1995/96, Black Light District reflects more on their formal avant-garde pursuits and academic interests rather than their industrial pedigree resume. Starting off with an obvious nod to John Cage with their introductory “Unprepared Piano”, the tone is prepared in exactly the same way… unpredictable. Conceptually abstract, Black Light District shows Coil’s old guard disregarding the pop rhythms found on previous albums, such as Love's Secret Domain, and fully embracing their experimental electronic trajectory. Subtle patterns of looping melancholy and malaise are placed delicately underneath ghostly electronic timbre. Approaching their creative method as something from the beyond, another realm in which sounds blur and performers seemingly appear from the ether.
Dais Records is proud to announce the official reissue of "Coil presents Black Light District - A Thousand Lights in a Darkened Room" on digital, CD, and double LP.

LOSCIL Plume CD

Recording as Loscil, the Vancouver musician Scott Morgan has released albums with themes based around subjects as varied as physics and submarines. His fourth full length is mostly concerned with the atmosphere, with titles like "Halcyon," "Mistral," and "Steam." Loscil uses treated acoustic and electric instruments, as well as synthesizers, to create full-sounding, rounded tones, which he punctuates with microscopic static clicks, matching mood to title with pieces like the unsettled "Rorschach" and the ethereal "Zephyr." Loscil: Krista Michelle Marshall, Stephen Wood (guitar); Jason Zumpano (Fender Rhodes piano); Josh August Lindstrom (xylophone). SOME LAST COPIES OF THIS EXCELLENT ALBUM!

MUSLIMGAUZE Feel The Hiss CD

Limited to 500 copies, digipak.

"Some of the tracks on Feel the Hiss, a release Bryn Jones recorded live to cassette in early 1995 but never had the chance to remix and polish before he died, use the same kinds of devotional voices found on much of Minaret Speaker, but here other voices are present too. Conversational or angry, male or female, English or French or Arabic, almost inaudible or forcing their way to the front of the music, these “Zilver Tracks” (the name based on a note Jones wrote on the tape) engage more directly with the world Jones was so fascinated with and tried to represent over and over again in his work as Muslimgauze.

If, like most listeners, you only speak one or two languages, the content on Feel the Hiss can be just as inscrutable as anything Jones has put out. But the music, luckily, is also just as wonderful; for a set of demos recorded live to tape the Feel the Hiss material certainly comes across as fully-formed, if a bit more reflective and synthesizer-heavy than much of his oeuvre. The lengthy “Zilver Track 4” especially, seems at times like a tour around the embattled regions of the world Jones was so passionate about, complete with echoing percussion, voices in various languages, even train sounds.

Not that this is Muslimgauze’s answer to the KLF’s Chill Out, by any stretch of the imagination; the dark, shimmering “Zilver Track 1” is as compellingly propulsive as any of his songs. It’s possible if Jones had gone back to this tape his changes would have brought it more in line with other Muslimgauze releases but as it is Feel the Hiss is a chance to experience the more contemplative side of his work."

MUSLIMGAUZE Souk Bou Saada CD

Auf Lager

13,00
Preis inkl. MwSt., zzgl. Versand

Hefty slabs of beefy beats are seasoned with spicy South Asian melodies while mouth numbingly hot bass lines are smothered in distortion chutney; /Souk Bou Saad/ was broiled in Machester’s finest tandoor and is now served by Staalplaat. If you love East-Indian flavor with a neo-Bhangra beat, this disc will not disappoint, equally at home on the dance floors of Bradistan, UK or Mumbai, India. On a buffet, this sizzling dish ought to be placed somewhere between /Silknoose/ and /Lahore & Marseille/, but with some unique takes on Bhangra beats. The disc opens with the fading echoes of breaks before a woman’s voice croons an old Punjabi song for several seconds; enter track two with its infectious stomp-beats, slices of sizzling distortion, masala violin with turmeric dulcimer and ghee laden hand percussion bits. Muslimgauze fans will need to dance off this caloric intake.
Tracks two through five can school even the likes of MIA on what grime laden ethno-dance beats are really about, best for the more intensely choreographed moments of a Bollywood dance routine. Hovering throughout most of /Souk Bou Saad/, like dense smoke from a barbecue flame, is a layer of distortion as if from a not-quite-tuned-in radio. When the distortion crackles in time to the beats, the realization hits that this was just another texture the late Bryn Jones used, the way a sculptor works with sheet metal and a blowtorch to add a new dimension to abstract works. By track five the album style veers into ambient-drone-radio-play territory as bass lines roll through agitated voices in North African dialects amidst urban environs, evocative of material from /Veiled Sisters/. Track six brings back the beat, this time in the same dusty North African villages while flute melodies, string instruments and ‘Gauzified slabs of distortion recall parts of /Jebel Tariq/. Track six returns to East Indian flavors with a variance from /Hussein Mahmood Jeeb Tehar Gas/, only with restrained beats culled from hand percussion but with menacing bass lines and distant Punjabi vocals. The final track book-ends the album on a South Asian bent with celebratory beats and ululating vocals with harmonium bits and lots of distortion, almost to the point of obscuring the music. Though /Souk Bou Saad/overall is decidedly East-Indian, it also acts as a bridge between above mentioned albums, great for Muslimgauze completists who want to hear all versions of previously released works along with something new and essential to those who are slaves to the rhythm.
